Hello, I am Dr Owen, I am a Board Certified Ob/Gyn Medical Doctor and I want to help you.
Having HSV -1 already does not necessarily reduce the risk, but usually where you got the original infection, that is where usually the subsequent outbreaks will occur.
ANd, if he already has HSV - you are not going to give him a New infection - because he has already been exposed to HSV.
I hope that makes sense.
Okay, so if he already has genital HSV-1, I will not re-infect him.
that is absolutely correct
one you have either HSV-1 or HSV -2, you are not going to get reinfected because you already have the herpes IN your body - and that is the whole entire body.
I hope that helps
Okay, thank you :) Do you know how often genital HSV-1 has asymptomatic shedding?
It only has shedding if you are feeling the pain, burning, or if you are having an outbreak, otherwise there is no symptomatic shedding
Okay, thank you.
you are welcome

Have a great week
Sure! I have one more question...how often does genital HSV-1 have no symptoms? Should my boyfriend have seen symptoms by now if he had it?
Well if you have no symptoms - then it essentially stays dormant and it does not shed nor cause any problems
so, usually if you do give someone a herpes infection - usually by about 10 days they will feel something, and he is not.
I wish you both well
