Do you recommend the use of a condom in monogamous couples

This answer was rated:

Do you recommend the use of a condom in monogamous couples when the woman has Hep C? My doctor says it is so rare that it is not necessary. I have not seen the recommendation, but I have heard that the CDC is also not recommending condoms for monogamous couples.
What is your take on this?

Dr. Pfeiffer :

hello,

Dr. Pfeiffer :

hepatitis c transmission is rare...that is true.

Dr. Pfeiffer :

and initially, the CDC did state that condom use was not necessary.

Dr. Pfeiffer :

However, that has been changed as to the last time I read the recommendation by the CDC....

Dr. Pfeiffer :

the CDC does now recommend condom use.

Dr. Pfeiffer :

Dr. Pfeiffer :

so..I read the recommendation again...and above, I'm talking about sexual transmission of hepatitis c

Dr. Pfeiffer :

the verbage the CDC is now using says condoms may not be necessary in heterosexual partners.

Dr. Pfeiffer :

even though the trasmission is low I do recommend the use of condoms as a professional recommendation.

It appears that the CDC isn't taking a definite stand. I suppose more research is necessary before they could.
