My husband performed oral sex on me about 10 days ago then he used a non latex condom on me for regular sex ,which is our usual way of having sex. Almost, immediately my vagina became irritated and began to itch especially near the clitoris and right inside the vagina cavity.I also felt burning when I urinated. I've had cottage cheese type yeast infections before so I don't believe that's the problem. Can you help me please,preferably,with a home remedy first,if possible. signed: confused and irritated

It's possible that this is related to changes in the tissue due to perimenopause.
Dropping estrogen levels can cause changes in the bacterial balance in the vagina with elevations in the pH.
Using an over the counter product such as RepHresh-Pro B can be helpful. The product contains both probiotic bacteria and an acidifier.
Probiotics have been found to be helpful in maintaining proper bacterial blends in both the vagina and the GI tract. Taking separate probiotic capsules by mouth may also be helpful.
If there is any dryness, using a natural lubricant such as sesame or almond oil may be helpful during sex. Also some women find that breaking open a Vitamin E capsule in the vagina a couple of times weekly helps with tissue health.
Continuing regular sexual activity is helpful too since sexual excitement and stimulation increase the blood flow to the tissue.
But a woman should never tolerate pain since sometimes a nerve memory develops associating sex with pain. This sometimes requires treatment to reverse.
If the above don't work and irritation continues, some women find that a prescription of low dose vaginal estrogen is needed.
