Customer Question

I just lost my virginity about a week ago, and we used protection. I didn't bleed until almost 48 hours after intercourse, and I've had heavy bleeding since. Should I be concerned?

Dr. Owen :

Hello, and I am pleased to help, use of my answers are for educational purposes only.

Dr. Owen :

ARe you asking if you are pregnant?

Dr. Owen :

When did you have sex - what date?

Dr. Owen :

When is your NEXT period suppose to start?

Customer :

I had sex on July 1. My next period is supposed to be around early July, I usually have it around the beginning of the month

Customer :

I am concerned about pregnancy, but also about possible disease

Customer :

I don't feel pain, cramps, or nausea. But the bleeding is very heavy

Dr. Owen :

Do you mean your next period is suppose to be around the 1st of August?

Customer :

Oh, you mean next month? Yes, around August 1 or 3

Dr. Owen :

Do you know the guy you had sex with?

Customer :

Not really. We used a condom

Dr. Owen :

So you had sex around the time of your period, is that correct?

Customer :

Yes

Customer :

A little before it was supposed to begin

Dr. Owen :

okay - when did you start your period?

Customer :

If it is my period, it was this Monday, July 2, at night

Dr. Owen :

okay - well this sounds like this is a heavy period for you

Customer :

I really hope it is just a heavy period. I know that sounds strange, but it's because I haven't had cramps or pain that I'm worried

Dr. Owen :

And, you really will Not get pregnant around the time you had sex - so you do not need to worry about getting pregnant

Customer :

Thank you. I am still worried, though, about infection. I was told heavy bleeding almost a week after isn't normal

Dr. Owen :

Well the time you can get pregnant is about 14 days PRIOR to your next period

Dr. Owen :

so you were not close to ovulation time, so you are very Unlikely to be pregnant from this incident

Customer :

That's what I read. I don't plan on any more sex any time soon, I was careful and told him to use a condom, and he didn't pressure me

Dr. Owen :

As for an infection - it is possible

Dr. Owen :

and if you know the guy, and you think he is STD free - unlikely you got any STD - but you should get tested to be sure - such as for Gonorrhea or Chlamydia

Dr. Owen :

Are you still there?

Customer :

I see, so it's good to get tested soon?

Dr. Owen :

did you try to click on EXCELLENT service

Customer :

How would I go about doing this? I know it sounds stupid, but I want to check. He was more experienced, but he beli

Dr. Owen :

yes, you should get tested soon - you do not have to wait

Customer :

Can I do it anonymously?

Dr. Owen :

well you can go to any doctor, ob/gyn, Family practice, or even go to any Planned Parenthood

Customer :

Ok. Thank you so much. This gives me peace of mind.

Dr. Owen :

Well anonymous does not matter because doctors are NOT allowed to divulge any information whatsoever
