I had unprotected sex with someone with HSV - 2. He is on Valtrex and we had been using condoms, but there was some skin to skin contact in the genital area. I developed a swollen, red pimply clitoris that went away when I went on Valtrex, and went to the OB GYN for a culture swab that came back...negative for HSV. I thought for sure I had Herpes. Is it possible that that The test is off -- or did I maybe never pick up Herpes but had an irritation to the condoms?
Hello, and I am pleased to help, use of my answers are for educational purposes only.If you did the culture at any other time other than at the Initial out break of the herpes lesions, then you might not have had any herpes virus left to culture.Another possibility is that it could have been coincidental that you had this going on and the Valtrex helped. So, the test could be off and wrong as there was not adequate herpes to be tested. Now, there is a blood test that will check to see if you have been EXPOSED to herpes, it does not tell you that you have an active herpes outbreak. So, you can get the HSV 1 and 2 titers - such as HSV 1 and 2 IgM and IgG - if the IgM is positive then this is a new infection, if the IgG is positive and the IgM is negative, then this is an exposure to HSV you have had in the past - but when you got exposed/ infected is impossible to say.I hope this helpsThank you for your question.

How many days did you have the lesions prior to using the Valtrex and/or getting this tested / cultured?
