Monika Hearne, M.D. :

Hello, I would be happy to assist you.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

Yes, it is possible to become pregnant after an ablation and this is very dangerous. For this reason, your doctor who performed the surgery should have also tied your tubes.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

I recommend you visit your ob/gyn as soon as possible to confirm the pregnancy is in the correct location. If so, and you choose to continue the pregnancy, the pregnancy after an ablation concerns us for growth issues with the baby, pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure), difficult removal of the placenta after delivery, with postpartum hemorrhage and possible need for emergency hysterectomy.

Customer :

He didnt tie my tubes because my ex husband had a vasectomy. what r my risks if i want to have this baby and is it possible to carry to full term

Customer :

so how did i even get pregnant ? i mean i still had periods and is it possible to still spot even though i am pregnant cuz of the scar tissue?

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

You can still become pregnant because you still a uterus/female reproductive organs. Like I said above, having your tubes tied or your doctor should have warned you if you refused. I frequently tell my patients who desire ablations that they must have their tubes tied also. One never knows what the future may hold and now that you are with a new partner you are pregnant.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

Yes, you can have spotting because of placental problems that can occur with pregnancy after an ablation.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

I just re-read my post and that second sentence should have read, "...having your tubes tied is highly recommended or..."

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

Can I address anything else for you?

Customer :

Yes , so the spotting will keep occuring thru out this pregnancy? Like I said the baby is in a good position. I had a sonogram done.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

Ah..I see. I didn't know that you had an ultrasound since you asked if it were possible to become pregnant. Yes, you may have spotting off an on throughout the pregnancy. Your risk of miscarriage and pre-term delivery are increased also. Make sure your doctor sends you to a high risk specialist to follow you regularly with ultrasounds.

Customer :

I just have one more ? Is there any warning signs i should look out for that the baby would be in distress or even me?

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

As far as right now, only if heavy bleeding develops would we be concerned. Later, we will ask you to count fetal movements (28 weeks). As long as your baby shows appropriate growth on your ultrasounds, we wouldn't have to be as concerned about the baby at all. If the baby maintains normal growth throughout your pregancy, we would only have to worry about delivery.

Customer :

thank you so much. I have been looking on line for three weeks and no one has been able to answer my ? s You have been very helpful. thankyou for being there for me. I do have one more and thats it so what were the odds of me getting pregnant after this ablation. I am asking because i want to know if im the odd ball out.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

You're so welcome. This is a good site for finding experts. I'm a board certified ob/gyn and several are on this site. Feel free to return if you have additional concerns in the future.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

The odds of you getting pregnant after an ablation is no different than if you didn't have an ablation. You're having intercourse without using contraception.

Customer :

oh i c so because i continued to have periods i was still ovulating. I was using the rythm method as a form of birth control.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

The rhythm method is highly ineffective...as you now see.

Monika Hearne, M.D. :

I wish you the best. If you have no further questions, please click "Accept" and rate my answer. Thank you.

Customer :

i see that now thankyou.
