i was diagnosed with PID from untreated chlamydia about 3 months ago. I was treated but then discovered that i could have given the STI to my partner, so we both had to be treated again. we had intercourse during the treatment period and our condom malfunctioned. that was about 2 1/2 months ago. i now feel slightly bloated most of the time and have light cramps(i am finishing my cycle however the cramps have lasted longer than usual) and it feels like my ovaries are swollen and i performed an "internal" exam myself and they feel firm and lower than normal.(i have felt this before, but it was all during my PID stage) could i still have the STI or PID?or could it be something else? im very good about getting my yearly pap test, im due for another in about 2 months. but i live in a new city and havent had the chance to find a Gynaecologist here. any suggestions, its making me very nervous?
Hi,Thank you for your question. It is an honor to be of some assistance to you. You are most likely not reinfected with Chlamydia, but I do understand your level of concern and anxiety. Your symptoms are most likely to do with your period - just in case, please take a pregnancy test, as that is the most common cause of anyone's symptoms. If that is negative, rest assured. If your symptoms persist over the weekend, try to find a clinic like planned parenthood - they can do a quick exam and chlamydia check to make sure that you are clear and you can likely be seen there right away. It is fine to take motrin or tylenol now for the cramps. I hope you find this information helpful. Please, do not hesitate to ask me any questions in the future or to request me. Remember, this communication does not replace a visit to the doctor. Good Luck and Well Wishes,Dr. Haver
