Customer Question

Hi, in July 2009, I had a "missed miscarriage" which I only found out about at 11 weeks LMP (an emergency scan after some spotting). This was my first pregnancy.
I am now pregant again about 11 weeks (LMP) but 9 weeks past exact conception date. I know I am exactly 9 weeks past conception now because I had an early scan at about 5 weeks, 4 days (after a small amount of brown spotting). This scan showed everything was normal, with a fetal heart beat detected. I have since been monitered with weekly HCG tests, which have been showing a normal rise/increase up to now (yesterday it was 152, 128). See the levels below. As you can see it has only dropped a little. Should this be a cause for concern? I have read somewhere that HCG levels can decline a little at 10-12 weeks past LMP. Any advice would be much appreciated.

hi

congratulations on your pregnancy! I would not be too concerned about the fluctuations of the hcg level once it reaches this amount. Have you had a recent ultrasound?

Customer replied 1152 days and 18 hours ago.

No, just the early one at 5 weeks, 4 days, but I have one booked in 4 days. My midwife is concerned at this small drop, and doesn't know what to make of it, so it is making me feel really worried, thats all.

I bet everything will be just fine on your ultrasound coming up. I know you are worried, and all pregnant moms are, especially when they have had a miscarriage. I don't usually check hcg levels after i see a heartbeat. I wouldn't worry since you haven't had any spotting. Good luck with this pregnancy.

Hi Mary, thanks for that, but I would like to point out in this pregnancy I have had two times of a very small bit of brown (caramel coloured) some at 5 weeks past conception (which is why I had the first scan) and then a very small bit again two weeks ago. Since then I have not had any spotting/abnormal discharge though, and no cramps.

I am reassured by the great level of your hcg. Let me know about the results of your ultrasound. Feel free to follow up with me if you have other questions of thoughts. All evidence suggests that your pregnancy is doing very well. I hope these next 4 days fly by!

Thanks Mary, much appreciated. Thanks also for answering my second question. I will let you know. =)

Hi Mary

As you requested, I thought I would let you know about the 9 week scan result I had last Tuesday. Everything was absolutely fine as you said it would be, good heartbeat, correct fetal size, no abnormalities/problems picked up. Thanks so much for your reassurance, it really got me through those four days I had to wait.

Keep up the great work!
God Bless
Sarah
