I had severe cervical dysplasia 5 years ago and had a partial hysterectomy. I noticed a foul vaginal odor prior to the surgery, which seemed to subside after my cervix and uterus were removed. I have had follow-up pap smears annually since. I have recently develop a foul odor vaginally again with a thin, white, milky discharge at times and even a yellowish brown discharge at times. More recent, I have had difficulty with intercourse and have had bleeding afterwards. I have had one sexual partner for the past 10 years and am 47 years old.

Hi
You may have an infection called bacterial vaginosis. It is not sexually transmitted and is characterized by a foul odor and a thin discharge. It is easily diagnosed by looking at a sample of the discharge under a microscope. It can be treated with either a vaginal antibiotic or an oral antibiotic. Your spotting may be caused by this infection or maybe a decrease in the amount of estrogen circulating in your body.
