At the end of May I had a laparoscopy done to remove an ovarian cyst. While in there they scraped because of endometriosis. I left the hospital with a burn on my ribs below my right breast between the size of a dime and a nickle, which I didn't notice until I got home. I was told that I would have three incisions but no one informed me of this burn. Since I had never had surgery done I thought it might be something from the procedure. Although it became slightly infected, peroxide was enough to keep the infection under control so I decided to wait until my post-op appointment to ask any questions. When I showed my doctor he said "Hmmm I wonder what that is". He thinks someone slipped and I was burned. It's going to leave a scar and it's something I find myself being self-conscious over. I'm not looking for major compensation, but I do believe that I shouldn't have to pay about $1000 for this procedure if it has left me self conscious about a scar I was not prepared to have. What can I do?
DearCustomer The question of the compensation could be decided between you and your doctor. If you are going to speak to him and offer no law suite in exchange of overlooking his fee for this procedure he may agree. You could take a different road and get a lawyer. Chances are you are going to win much more than $1000, but you will loose a good doctor. It is more your choice than his, but if he bulks - sue him. You have a very high chance of winning - it will probably be settled out of court. That is if the info that you are relating is entirely correct. Best wishes, Dr. G
