The first baseline mammogram should be done between 35 and 40. If a woman is age 40 or older, she should have a mammogram every 1-2 yrs. If you are over 50, one should be done every 1-2 years. Women that are at a higher than average risk of breast cancer should talk to their doctor about whether to have this test done before age 40 and how often to have them done. The risk of breast cancer increases as you get older. There is no cut off age as to when this test should be stopped.
