The Mirena is a very effective form of birth control, HOWEVER, pregnancy is indeed a possibility. From the official FDA approved prescribing information;
"The reported 12-month pregnancy rates were less than or equal to 0.2 per 100 women and the cumulative 5-year pregnancy rate was approximately 0.7 per 100 women"
So the answer is YES, a very few patients with Mirena will get pregnant. Less than 1 woman in 100 would be expected to get pregnat over a 5 year period on Mirena.
