Is the check engine light on?

Expert:  Mike V. replied 6 days ago.

Ok, do you happen to know what code is causing the light to stay on?

Expert:  Mike V. replied 6 days ago.

Have to step out for a few minutes, please let me know the code if you can.

Sometimes the maf sensor will cause this issue. Try unplugging it and see if the car will start and idle on it's own. If it will then you have a bad mass air flow sensor.

code P0505
Expert:  Mike V. replied 6 days ago.

Ok, that points to the IAC valve on the throttle body, or a idle problem, which we know it has. Did you try unplugging the mass air flow sensor?

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
it runs worse
Expert:  Mike V. replied 6 days ago.

well, you won't be able to accelerate with it unplugged, but that's not really what we are testing here since the car has a problem with the idle.

If you unplugged it, then started the car and it still wouldn't idle, that tells me the maf isn't the problem. Is this how you did the test?

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
correct. still wont idle. The battery recently went dead? but its charged now.
Expert:  Mike V. replied 6 days ago.

On the older ones like this it doesn't matter if the battery died really.

I would remove and clean the IAC from the throttle body. Sometimes the pintal will get stuck on them and they won't move like they should. Clean it, re install it and see if it helps. This is the black round motor on the throttle body.

let me know.

Were you able to clean the IAC and did it help at all?

Customer: replied 3 days ago.
not yet had to leave town for a few days I will when I get back.

Sounds good, let me know.
