Nissan Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Don't worry, you're not the first to do that. My mechanics do it all of the time.
How much fluid would you say you lost?
That's probably not enough to affect the transmission if you only lost a quart, but your best bet is to add a little bit of fluid. You will need some genuine Nissan CVT fluid.
Here is how you can add it:
If you add a half pint or so through this cap you should be good to go. It can't be checked from here, but you can safely add a little.
If you want to check the fluid level you will need some special tools that are only available at the Nissan dealer.
Keep in mind, the only fluid you can use in this transmission is Genuine NISSAN NS-3 CVT Fluid. Anything else will void your warranty and damage the transmission.
You need a small flat head screwdriver- the pencil thin pocket type works best. Put it in the slot I am pointing to with the red arrow and you will release a lock tab.
Probably a good idea to have the dealer check it after you add a pint (half quart) or so to it.
