I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, the brakes are soft, going

Customer Question

I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, the brakes are soft, going all the way to the floor, and not stopping well. I bled the brakes, thinking that I have air in the line, after finishing I found that there was a crack in the gasket on the reservoir cap, so I replaced it and will re-bleed the brakes. There is no leaking on/around the tires. How can I tell if I need to replace the Master Cylinder or the Brake Booster without having to pull them off.
JA: Have you tried "bleeding the brakes" to get any air out of the line?
Customer: Yes I did that already, I haven't since I replaced the gasket on the cap
JA: Are you fixing your Pathfinder yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes I am fixing it. As I said I bled the brakes, thinking that I have air in the line, after finishing I found that there was a crack in the gasket on the reservoir cap, so I replaced it and will re-bleed the brakes.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Did you do any work on the brakes before this condition started?
