I have a 2000 Altima, I got a code for the torque converter

Customer Question

I have a 2000 Altima, I got a code for the torque converter solenoid, replaced that but the transmission is still slipping when it should be shifting into 3rd gear.. It doesn't shift past second just slips. What other sensors could cause that?
JA: This is potentially serious. How long has it been going on?
Customer: The car has been sitting for 6 months since the first time it started doing it I haven't been driving it since
JA: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I replaced the valve body on the trans and the auto trans solenoid pack, also the TPS
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That's it

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

It's possible that the trans is actually going into limp in and not shifting, but it's actually slipping in a single gear that indicates clutch failure.

Are any fault codes currently setting?

the torque converter solenoid code

Is the trans going into limp in and staying in one gear rather than slipping?

It's slipping and not goinfn into 3rd gear

If third gear is slipping then it indicates clutch failure.

Not necessarily. It can be other thing such as sensors. Can the revolution sensor and the crankshaft position sensors be the culprits ?
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 1 month ago.

No. If a single gear is slipping it indicates that clutch is not applying correctly - slipping. A speed sensor, solenoid, wiring issue, etc are all going to cause it to go into limp in. Slipping in a single gear is clutch failure.

What part(s) do I need to replace ?

The transmission would need to be removed and disassembled for inspection to see if anything needed to be replaced in addition to standard overhaul parts, or the trans can be replaced as a unit.
