Customer Question

We just bought a 05 Nissan Xterra and tried an unprogramed key on it. Now it is messed up. We had no idea this would happen. What did we mess up and how do we fix it?

do you have a lock code set?

Expert:  Jake replied 3 months ago.

if you try an unprogrammed key 5 times it will go into lock mode and set a P1610 code

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i dont know. the guy working on it said he reset some transmission codes.
Expert:  Jake replied 3 months ago.

well I would need to know if you had a P1610 code to know if the unregistered key had any effect on it at all

Expert:  Jake replied 3 months ago.

if so you can escape from it.

2.

ESCAPE FROM LOCK MODE

1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

2. Turn ignition switch ON with registered key. (Do not start engine.) Wait 5 seconds.

3. Return the key to OFF position. Wait 5 seconds.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice (total of three cycles).

5. Start the engine
