Customer Question

It will not start. Sounds like it is not getting fuel. The fuel pump was replaced yet the same result. Checked all the fuses as well.
JA: Most vehicles have two fuse panels. Have you located both?
Customer: I have a 2004 Armada. I checked the one under the hood. Where is the other one
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have a couple of mechanics on it. We changed the fuel, pump and check the fuse box under the hood
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Prior to not starting, it showed signs of hesitation at times as if the gas was bad or the fuel pump was failing

The hesitation was not all of the time, but did occur often over the past few months. Thought that it might be the plugs but it is firing okay, just not getting gas and not starting.

Hi Im David. when you turn the key to the on position(not start), is the fuel pump running for a few seconds?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

ok. have you checked for injector pulse?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is that the button under the hood? If so, the mechanic did and he said no air came out
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Which fuse box contains the fuel pump fuse?
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

if he doesnt know what injector pulse is, maybe he shouldnt be working on your car? im sorry. just my opinion

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No, ( I ) don't know what it is. He has gone home for the evening.
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

to check injector pulse you unplug each injector and put a noid light in the connector then crank the car and the noid light should flash

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No, that was not done.
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

ok im sorry......do you happen to have a noid light?

Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

let me find the fuse for you.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I am not so inclined mechanically. I have no idea what that is.
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

ok....at least we can check the fuse. allow me a sec

Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

heres a fuel pump fuse in the ipdm under the hood

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
The mechanic checked all of the fuses under the hood and said that they were fine.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I'll have him recheck them tomorrow. Are there any other possibilities? Will a diagnostic computer shed any light on the matter?
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

theres all kinds of possibilties, but without knowing what all has been done..its tough. if he has a scan tool that would help tremendously

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
They are going to scan it tomorrow. Only things done today was replacing fuel pump and checked injector deal under the hood.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Last question: are any fuses in the other box relevant to this matter?
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

i will take a look for you

Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

have the mechanic check for spark at all cylinders also

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
If that doesn't work, do you think that that the fuel pump is bad? J got it online.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Just saw were the old fuel pump is working its ass off. Therefore, perhaps, it wasn't the fuel pump.
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

exactly. that is why before anything is replaced on a vehicle, proper troubleshooting is mandatory, or you are just handing money over to him and nothing is getting fixed.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Will the crank sensor stop the fuel pump from working. Mechanic just asjed
Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.

no

Expert:  david craig replied 4 months ago.
