This sounds like a fault with the sliding door latch itself.I have seen the latches fail before in the past needing replaced for issues like this here.I would have this tested further to be sure this is the cause here then replaced as needed.Being a 2015 model this should be able to be diagnosed and repaired under warranty at a dealer at no cost to you.
