I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder. I have the P0420

Customer Question

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder. I have the P0420 code. About one week ago, the car would not start, not crank, nothing other than lights so the electrical was fine. I disconnected both terminals on the battery for about 30 minutes, reconnected and started right up. I had first tried disconnecting only the negative terminal for 30 minutes and it did not work. ANy suggestions of what it could be. I am leaning toward replaceing the O2 sensors first as that's seems to be the least expensive to start with and they have never been replaced with over 140K on the car.

good evening my name is ***** ***** I will assist

420 is a cat efficiency code. the cat converter is worn out and needs to be replaced. it is not the O2 sensors as they are giving the readings only. you will need to replace the cat converter
