Also a new solenoid came with the new starter. Dose this Titan have starter relay ? if so would it make it sound like the solenoid is bad?
Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

Hey there, thanks for the question.

What is going on with the truck?

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

There is a starter relay built into the IPDM, but they don't fail very often.

Can you give me some symptoms of what is going on? Are you turning the key to START position and getting a single click? or what?

I need to know WHY YOU THINK IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SOLENOID?

WHAT HAPPENS when you try to start the engine?

DOES IT CLICK ONCE? does it click fast? does it crank? what DOES IT DO?

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

I am not in a position to talk right now, too loud in here.

I could call in the evening when not in the shop, otherwise we can chat like this.

If you have a BLACK ipdm like the one in the picture. Your starter relay is not serviceable or removable.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

The diagram on the left is for the arrangement on the white IPDM's in the early titans 04-07.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

If your getting a click then your Starter is likely bad.

Do you have a voltmeter? we can test from the IPDM and see if its the starter.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I don't

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the new starter did the somethimg
Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

you need a volt meter then so we can diagnose this properly.

For the starter relay to energize you need a signal from the ignition switch to the IPDM and you need a a park/neutral signal from the transmission. Then this will enegrgize the starter relay and allow you to get 12v to the small wire on the solenoid.

Expert:  Jake replied 1 year ago.

if you have 12v at the small wire and the engine doesn't turn, it can only be 3 things. Either the battery is too weak, the starter is bad, or the engine is seized.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok Thank anyway
