Hello. How much transmission fluid did you put back in?

What year is it?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The same mount that came out as it drained into a container, i then put it back in
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
2002
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

So, you put the transmission fluid that came out right back in?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
thats right
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

after you added it, and changed your oil, did you start the engine, let it heat up and run the gear selector through all the positions and back up to park, then check the transmission fluid with the engine running?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I didnt let it heat up but i did run through the gears i didnt check the fluid while it was running. As soon as i replaced the fluid i turned the car on ran through the gears and tried to drive forward with little response from the car. The car moves slowly once it reaches 2.5 revs
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Let it warm up and run the selector through all the positions and back up to park while holding your foot on the brake. Then check your fluid level. You must be low.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Im concerned that i may haveput the fluid back in the wrong plce i googled it and it told me to put the transmission fluid in where the dipstick for the transmission is
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Oh no... where did you put it?

Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

You poured it in the dipstick tube, right?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
not where YOu check the oil, the tranmission dipstick tube
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok.. Good. Transmissions are very very picky. They have to have the perfect amount of fluid. You need to check your fluid level.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
doing what you said to now. Am I better off Draining the fluid and replacing it
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Can you tell me the correct quantity please
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

That's the goofy thing about nissan. They didn't provide a drain/fill quantity. Their specification for drain and fill is "refill with same volume as drained fluid"

The total capacity is 9 quarts, but that doesn't help you at all. At this point, you should warm it up and check the fluid.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just checking now
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

OK. I'll be standing by. Let it warm up at least 5 minutes before checking.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok thanks
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
can you tell me what side the atm is passenger or drivers side?
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

atm?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
sorry transmission fluid dipstick
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

passenger?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok so your not sure?
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

I am almost positive it is passenger side. Let me check

Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Yes.. passenger side

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok give me a minute
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
thats where i put the fluid, just checking levels
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it looks over full however only about 250ml comes out of sump
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

it's only like a quarter of a quart.. That's all that came out when you pulled the drain plug?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
1/4 of a litre
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

sometimes It's difficult to get a good reading, but keep pulling the dipstick and checking it. run the selector through all the positions. You can't possibly be overfull.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok thanks will put more fluid in and hope for the best
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Do you still consistently get an over full reading on the dipstick? Check both sides of the dipstick. One side is often high while the other side is not quite as high.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the level is up to the stem on both sides so looks like there is plenty of fluid
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Then I have to wonder, did you attempt to drive it before adding the fluid?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

Ok, when you pulled the drain plug, only about 1/4 litre came out, and you installed the plug and put that 1/4 litre back in, and now it won't move, right?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

but it drove fine before that 1/4 litre was removed, and then immediately put back in?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
thats right
Expert:  AZTechBrian replied 1 year ago.

I am going to have to opt out. I have no idea what could have happened here based on what I have gathered from you so far. If someone else here knows what happened they will reply right here. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
