Customer Question

I have a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder crank no start. 2 days ago I drove the car a short distance and it operated fine. Later that day my wife said it would not crank. I found that the positive batter cable connector was corroded and damaged by wiggling it. I replace the terminal and now the car cranks but does not start. I checked all fuses to see if I might have popped one when I initially wiggled the positive cable. All fuses seem fine.

Hello, I'm Brandon - Nissan tech.

No, you did not popped the fuse.

Do you have a voltmeter? If yes, can you check the voltage to see if is 12.6 with engine off.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Battery voltage is 12.23
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

12.23 is kind of weak.

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

can you charger it up to 12.6 v.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm sure it was that high when I started. I've been looking at it off and on for two days with many tries cranking. I don't have a working charger at the moment.
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

I typically make sure the battery is a good working order. Meaning good connection and strong battery.

The next thing will the fuel pump. A bad fuel pump can make the car just crank, crank and no start.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
you don't think it is related to the terminal repair to the battery. The car ran fine that morning. The only thing that changed was me fixing the terminal.
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

Did you installed the terminal with a good terminal and it is securely tight.

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

The terminal has lot to do with it. Make sure the negative terminal is clean and all terminals is super tight.

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

The engine only need air, fuel, spark and power to crank the engine. One of the thing missing will not start the car.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I checked both terminals they're clean and tight. The car is turning over strong just won't start.

check if you have sparks. If yes, fuel pump is bad.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
How do I check for spark specific to this Engine. I am a former tech but not familiar with Nissan. I understand the concept of air fuel and spark.
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

Just a quick check. Pull the plugs out with the coil on it and crank the engine. You should see a white blue spark.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No spark
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

give me a few minutes I'm on the road.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I only pulled one plug. Your message said plugs.
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

Pull another plug out and see. Let me know?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you still there?
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

I'm still here.

Did you remove any coil with the spark plug attached.

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

If there is no spark on the second one.

I need you to plug in an OBD2 scanner to check for codes.

Common problem is the crank sensor.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There was no spark on the second plug. I do not have an OBD2 scanner.
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

The crank sensor is bad . You must replace it with a factory Nissan crank sensor.

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

Please rate me positive thank you !

Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.

When the crank sensor is bad it does not give signal to the coil therefore no sparks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I went to Peak Nissan and going to crank sensor. It did not fix it.

It seems that internal88 has opt'd out cause he feels he can not help you with this.

Do you still require help with this?
