How does 2002 Nissan Xterra automatic transmission last>?

Customer Question

How long does 2002 Nissan Xterra automatic transmission last>? I have one with 200,000 miles and due to financial circumstances, cancer etc. funds are limited, I found someone experienced to do an engine swap for a reasonable price with one year warranty..
But wondering if transmission goes out generally with these.. Its not super charged, is 4x4, have not had any issues with transmission, and mechanics have told me if I havent had it serviced to not service it since its so old. I did spill water on the shifter
and its a bit tight at times. I could buy another cheap used car for 2 grand but this xterra is a known .. help !

Hello, my name is***** vehicles have good transmissions that are not known for problems but at 200k miles you are starting to get up there so risk of any component failing definitely increases. What are you paying for motor swap?

1800 .. more if I want the gaskets replaced, which was suggested.. its an old business contact here in town..

If you never had any transmission problems then I think it is worth spending the 1800 to fix. Since these had good transmissions I do not see any reason you cannot get another 100k assuming it was fine before. I think it is worth fixing since you probably won't find a better vehicle for $2000. Let me know if you have more questions or if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks.
