does this sound like a loud ticking rattle? kind of like a diesel engine?

If so, then your looking at a fuel damper that's starting to fail. This repair is not too bad, but there are 2 dampers, so you want to let the engine run and use a stethescope or a long screwdrive to see which on is bad first. Then replace it. Part and labor for a fuel damper replacement is right at about $250
