infinit g35 coupe: Tried to use the window motor reset button

Resolved Question:

Tried to use the window motor reset button on the 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe to fix the passenger side window (had the issue where it get's all the way to the top, and then goes back down about 1/4 of the way; this also occurs when I close the door), and now the window is stuck down. Tested the driver's side window, and that went down just fine, but is now also stuck in the down position. Hear the clicking when I press either D or P side window down switch, but no noise when I press up on either side. Help!!!

Jay :

Hello my name is XXXXX XXXXX thank you for your question.

Jay :

When you were trying to program the window did you have the door open or closed?

Customer:

i followed the instructions that I fond all over the web

Customer:

1. with the door open, lift up and hold the power window switch until the door glass is fully closed.
2. get inside the vehicle and close the door.
- you need to close the door so the door switch is fully depressed
3. press and hold the reset switch. while holding the reset switch, press down and hold the power window switch until the door glass is fully opened.
4. release the reset switch. then, lift up and hold the power window switch until the door glass is fully closed.
5. open the door to release the door switch. the door glass should partially move down.

Customer:

thereafter, I tried to test the window. It seemed to go far slower than usual

Customer:

tested it with the door closed, and the same problem occurred (reached the top, automatically went partially down)

Customer:

then i put it all the way down, and it got stuck

Jay :

The steps you gave me work on a Sedan

Jay :

When you have a coupe, your window drops a little when you open the door

Jay :

So you need to program the window with the door closed

Customer:

ok im in the car, door closed

Jay :

When you are programming the window

Jay :

Raise it to the top

Customer:

it's stuck down

Customer:

both sides are

Jay :

Open and close the door

Jay :

Start the car and turn it off

Jay :

and open and close the door

Jay :

Then see if the windows go up

Customer:

seems my battery is dead

Customer:

no clicking

Customer:

car wont start

Jay :

That could be why they won't go up

Jay :

lol

Customer:

interior lights are on but dim. security light is flashing

Customer:

remote lock works

Jay :

Lets jump start the car and get it running

Customer:

brb

Jay :

ok

Jay :

Take your time.. I am online till 10 or 11 pm EST

Customer:

alright car is on, windows work, and i feel dumb

Customer:

so how do i reset the window

Jay :

ok

Jay :

Close the door put the window all the way up to start

Customer:

or should i let it charge for a few

Jay :

If the car is running you should be fine

Customer:

ok window is up

Jay :

Now when programming the windows. Do not use the Auto Down or Auto Up feature..

Jay :

So now that the window is up

Jay :

Press and hold the reset button on the window motor

Jay :

and lower it all the way.. NO Auto Down

Jay :

Then release the button

Jay :

Then Raise the window all the way up-- NO Auto up

Customer:

little nipple thing under the sticker, located directly below the screw hole for the bottom of the door handle, coorect?

Jay :

Then release the window switch after it gets all the way up

Jay :

and wait 5 seconds then test operation

Jay :

Yes..

Customer:

ok

Jay :

It's a little nipple type button that

Customer:

is there any action to it? the button (more so its base) can move left to right, and there is no click or detectable engagement when i depress the nipple.

Customer:

just want to ensure that im actually pushing it and its not broken or jammed or something

Jay :

If you find that that button has play to the right or left, then you need a window motor

Jay :

The button should press in.

Customer:

definitely moves back and forth

Jay :

Then you need a window motor I am afraid

Jay :

The CPU for programming the window is part of the window motor. When the side of the window motor has play like your saying, the motor will need to be replaced

Customer:

awesome

Customer:

will the reset work, or does this mean that the button is disconnected/nonfunctional?

Jay :

yeah, the window motor program button is broken and that is why it can't be set. So that is why the window motor needs to be replaced

Customer:

gotcha

Customer:

ok

Jay :

Do you have any more questions on this?

Customer:

relatively handy, believe it or not....should be able to DIY the window motor?

Jay :

Yeah.. The hardest part of the whole job

Jay :

Is removing the window and adjusting it

Jay :

Adjusting the glass I mean

Jay :

This is what I do

Jay :

One bolt comes out, and one you just loosen

Jay :

Then you lift the window out of the door and lay it in a safe spot

Jay :

Once you remove the regulator panel and replace the motor

Jay :

When you put the glass back it, it will need to be adjusted

Jay :

But just get the window in place first and program it

Jay :

Then

Jay :

Once programmed

Jay :

Take a dollar bill

Jay :

lay it on the top of the glass and close the door on it

Jay :

It should have a slight drag to the dollar bill

Jay :

You want to do that around the window

Jay :

If it slides out freely

Jay :

Then you need to loosen the window and adjust till you get the dollar bill drag

Jay :

Understand?

Customer:

yup got it

Jay :

do you have any more questions on this?

Customer:

one more thing - for extra credit and peace of mind - took passenger seat out to get it cleaned, knew the airbag indicator light would start flashing, kept flashing when i reconnected, but did the on/off reset and it went off. good to go or do i need to get my airbags checked out? dont want to waste money but also dont want my passengers dying

Jay :

You should be fine

Jay :

If the light is out

Customer:

roger that, thanks Jay

Jay :

If the light remained on, then you may want to have it check

Jay :

But your good

Customer:

going to go find a motor now

Jay :

Don't forget to charge the battery also..

Jay :

lol

Customer:

big price range on these things

Customer:

$148 too cheap? have a recommended outlet for purchase?

Jay :

Yeah.. be careful

Jay :

Before you go buying one..

Jay :

Price it at the dealer first

Jay :

It's always a good starting point

Jay :

cause you never know, it maybe cheaper than you think also

Customer:

can use a z motor?

Customer:

or only g

Jay :

Yeah

Customer:

nice

Customer:

ok

Jay :

you should be able to use a Z motor

Jay :

What I would do to be sure

Jay :

Is call a Infiniti dealer

Jay :

and get a price and part number on it

Jay :

Then call a Nissan dealer and ask them to check a part number and give them the part number you got from Infiniti

Jay :

and get a price from them also

Jay :

Nissan should be cheaper and it's the same part also

Customer:

ok

Customer:

so recommend ultimately buying from the dealership, or then pricing online and not going with anything that has too deep a discount

Customer:

?

Jay :

Price out the dealer..

Jay :

Then enter the part number here

Jay :

and check price here

Jay :

That link

Jay :

This is a Nissan dealer in Texas that sells Nissan parts with out the dealer Mark up

Jay :

This is the best way to go actually

Jay :

I don't trust after market motors

Customer:

then i dont either

Customer:

ok

Customer:

thanks man

Jay :

When it comes to electrical parts, I never trust after market

Jay :

Your welcome..
