Nissan/Datsun Pathfinder 4x4: 97 Pathfinder 4wd. car went down

This answer was rated:

97 Pathfinder 4wd. car went down with a fuel pump issue. replaced. Confirmed fuel to the top of the engine in and out. wont start. get a few chugs but no run. cleaned distributor rotor and cap. no luck. ran beautiful to this point, scratching my head now.

NISSAN TECH :

hi

NISSAN TECH :

did you check for sparks at the plug wires ?

Customer:

thats my next move. ran beautifully right up to the fuel pump fail so I didnt even think of that till this am.

NISSAN TECH :

well if you have fuel pressure then you have to look somewhere else

NISSAN TECH :

did you check the pressure at the fuel rail at the engine

Customer:

unfortunately I do not have a fuel pressure meter

NISSAN TECH :

ok if you remove the fuel line at the rail and crank the engine do you get fuel from the line

Customer:

yes

NISSAN TECH :

ok so you need to check sprak

NISSAN TECH :

and injector operation

Customer:

Ok spark first, then what, maybe air flow? the air filter is new, air sensor is clean, maybe something else.

Customer:

I will be back.

NISSAN TECH :

don't think air flow would be a problem

NISSAN TECH :

as long as the filter is not clog

NISSAN TECH :

check sparks and injector operation

NISSAN TECH :

also remove the distributor cap and crank the engine and make sure the distributor rotor is turning

Customer:

got the beast to run, but it appears to have a problem when it heats up. ran it for 10 minutes, drove it around up to 40mph and it just quit. Let it sit with the hood open for 20 and it started again, then quit again when I got back in my driveway (2 minutes). this appears to be something to do with heat maybe. any ideas?
