1982 zx brake lights will not go off replaced the switch but have to pull the fuse

Hi there!
Check the brake pedal lever. The older ones had a plastic plug that sometimes would pop out. This is the area the switch makes contact. If the plug is gone, then the lights will stay on.

Thanks for your info. Ordered new plugs (you were right they were missing), lights still wouldn't go off. Looked more closely and there were two "brake light" switches (it has cruise control), and on the switch I didn't replace the post was broken off. Replaced it and they work fine. Thanks for your help.
