how do I replace the expansion valve on a 1998 Nissan Altima
Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer.com
The Expansion valve is located in the evaporator box
On this year Nissan it's not to bad of a job. The dash doesn't need to be removed like the newer cars.
To replace the expansion valve, you will need to discharge the AC system. Remove the two AC lines from the evaporator.
Then you will need to remove the glove boc
box
Then you will need to unbolt the evaporator box
Tip it back and remove.
Once you have the evaporator box removed, then you can replace the expansion valve. I would also clean the evaporator box as well since you will have it removed.
If you have any more questions on this, please feel free to ask. Thanks Jay!
Will I have to flush the system? The clutch on the compressor is frozen, so I am replacing the compressor, drier and expansion valve. Is there anything else that I should do. Thx
Normally just the compressor and receiver dryer is just replaced.
I don't think you are going to need to replace the expansion valve.
The expansion valve is normally not effected by compressor operation, the receiver dryer is what can get effected by the compressor.
Do I need to add pag oil to the compressor and the dryer? How much in each? Thx
That's Ok I got an answer already.Thx
