Customer Question

My 2009 Nissan Murano engine compartment was covered in oil after the mechanic left the oil dipstick out. There was less than a quart of oil left and Nissan Garage says the engine is damaged. Is this correct?

Country: United States
Make: Nissan/Datsun
Model: Murano S
Engine: 3.5

Already Tried:
After 200 miles, we added oil and it seemed that the engine was OK; later after another 1,000 miles there was audible knocking. There was 38,779 miles on the car when this occured.

Welcome to JA! I am Carguy1 and I will assist you today.
Hi there!
If there is knocking and the engine had less then a quart of oil in it, then I would have to side with the nissan garage.
Knocking indicates one of the connecting rod bearings is bad. This happens when the engine is starved for oil.
Sorry to say, from here it does sound like you should have the engine replaced. You should also go after the folks who left the dipstick out so the engine could run out of oil.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for your time. You agree with two Nissan Dealerships and we are having the engine replaved. The people who left the dipstick out have agreed to pay for everything.
