Jay :

Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer.com

Jay :

I spoke you last time about this.

Jay :

Did you check the oil level and that solenoid?

Customer:

yes i tried changing the cam sensors and the car wont start with the new bank two sensor in it

Jay :

Cam sensor?

Customer:

solenoid is brand new and oil is clean and good

Jay :

Why the cam sensor?

Customer:

thats what the code according to the nissan forum could be the prob

Jay :

For the P0021?

Customer:

or one of the probs

Jay :

No...

Customer:

yes

Jay :

That is a code for the Intake Valve timing control solenoid.

Customer:

crankshaft, camshaft, valve control solenoid were all possible causes

Customer:

thats brand new

Jay :

Yeah, they are possible, but I have never seen them cause this

Jay :

Is that sensor after market?

Jay :

or did you get it from the dealer

Jay :

?

Customer:

autozone

Customer:

dealer is crazy with their prices

Jay :

You sure the oil level is correct right?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

and clean just changed it 2 hours ago

Jay :

You know checking the oil is tricky on these engines

Customer:

and oil is oem spec for the car

Jay :

You have to flip the dipstick to read it after you pull it out

Customer:

yeah i know

Customer:

i know i did that after you said that last time

Jay :

Ok, just making sure. Most people make that mistake.

Jay :

Now this solenoid you replaced

Jay :

Where did you install it?

Jay :

Towards the front of the engine, or the back?

Customer:

front passenger side

Customer:

by radiator

Jay :

Ok, yeah that is bank two.

Jay :

Do you have access to a scanner to monitor timing and solenoid operation?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

i have a diag comp not sure if it will show me that though

Jay :

Can you monitor fuel trim and stuff like that?>

Customer:

are there always this many problems with theses cars

Customer:

no

Jay :

I have this car also

Jay :

I have no problems like this.

Jay :

I have a 03 3.5 Altima

Customer:

i mean i love the car just not the problems

Jay :

Oh yeah, I hear ya

Jay :

hehe

Customer:

ive had it in the shop like three times and noone can tel me what the prob is

Jay :

Where are you located in the country?

Customer:

new jersey

Jay :

Really?

Jay :

Where in NJ

Customer:

bradley beach

Jay :

Do you mind a 1 1/2 ride?

Customer:

nope

Jay :

I can recommend my shop to take a look at it for you.

Customer:

how much

Jay :

It depends. I am sure I can get you the diagnoses to resolve your issue.

Jay :

Just it would have to be after hours so parts may not be available

Customer:

where are you guys located?

Jay :

Ramsey NJ

Customer:

even my instructors at school couldnt tell me what the prob was

Jay :

I have been with Nissan for 20 years..

Jay :

There isn't much I can't figure out

Customer:

these guys at school are supposed to be master techs

Jay :

Notice the word you said.

Jay :

Suppose

Customer:

well i figured with all their crdiantials they were

Customer:

credentials

Customer:

they have a nissan program and the guy couldnt tell me

Jay :

They are Paper work Masters.

Jay :

I am not a Master, I will tell you that. Cause I don't take the tests. But I know more than most Master Techs I have worked with.

Customer:

lol

Jay :

Hows next Wednesday at 6pm?

Customer:

yeah since diag is the new thing

Customer:

thats great

Customer:

gives me time to get home from school

Jay :

Go to Ramsey Infiniti and ask for James.. He will take care of this for you.

Customer:

will he know the situation

Jay :

For sure!

Customer:

do i tell him i talked to you already

Jay :

He will know all about this

Customer:

go in the service door right

Jay :

You could, or ask one of the lot guys who check you in that you would like to speak to James. He will take care of this for you after hours.

Jay :

Yet use the proper equipment to diagnose it for you.

Jay :

You can talk about price with him.

Jay :

yup

Jay :

It's a little crazy the entrance

Customer:

i didnt know they would let people in after hours

Jay :

Soon as you pull in, go right, and around the building and down the hit. The shop is like under the building.

Jay :

He runs the show there.

Customer:

if you had to guees what do think it would cost

Customer:

round figure

Jay :

No idea.

Jay :

Going to have to meet him and talk to him. I know he will want at least 50 bucks up front

Customer:

thats fine

Customer:

aslong as he can tell me whats wrong

Jay :

Let him take a look at it.

Jay :

You will be in good hands with him

Jay :

He is the Foreman of the shop

Customer:

ok but why wouldnt the car start with new cam sensors regardless if thats the prob but start with the old one ?

Customer:

sensor bank 1 works fine

Jay :

did you put a after market sensor in , or one from the dealer?

Customer:

from autozone

Jay :

Thats why

Jay :

After market sensors never work right

Customer:

looks exactly like what was in there

Jay :

Don't go by looks

Jay :

Is that where you got the solenoid also?

Customer:

no

Customer:

that was put on at the shop

Jay :

Three 10 mm bolts and one plug right?

Customer:

yes

Jay :

Did you change the gasket also?

Customer:

i didnt change it it was done at the shop wether they did or not im not sure

Jay :

ok

Customer:

next wed right

Jay :

Yes

Jay :

6 pm

Jay :

Ask for James the shop Foreman

Jay :

If you can't make it, just let me know and I will tell him or you can call the dealer and ask to speak to the shop foreman and tell him

Customer:

no i will be there lol for sure i want this problem resolved

Customer:

any other problems these cars are prone too

Jay :

How many miles on it?

Customer:

150300

Customer:

had 139,000 when i got it

Jay :

Some engine mounts can break through time.

Customer:

but i have maintained it since i have had it

Jay :

Other than that, he can look the car over for you also if you like

Customer:

do these engines last along time

Jay :

Oh yeah. They can out last the car if maintained

Jay :

I have about 130k on mine

Customer:

whats better for it syntec or reg oil

Jay :

I use Synthetic on mine

Jay :

I noticed it improved my MPG from 18 mpg to 22 mpg

Customer:

im getting 25 hwy and 23 city right now

Jay :

You may get better.

Jay :

I drive all back roads really, So my 22 is more like city

Customer:

yeah hopefully that will help on theses pa trips to school

Jay :

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Customer:

what would cause a knock when it starts that goes away

Jay :

after it's been sitting? when first started?

Customer:

yes

Jay :

Hard to tell with out hearing it.

Customer:

or is that just cause theres no oil in the cyl yet

Jay :

I know the engine leaks down and all the oil from up top drains down

Jay :

So yeah, it could be that first shot of oil needing to pump up

Customer:
