I have a 96 Nissan Sentra 4cy Auto. i just replaced my Alternator (was driving the car at night everything started to go dim then everything quit - tested with a know good battery - started the car and removed the positive cable - engine died so i replace the alt.). Now my parking lights are on all the time (have to disconnect the battery when not driving) also only the brights work by pulling the light switch toward you. there are no dash lights as well. I replaces the battery with a New one and still have the same problems. car starts fine AC and Radio work just fine also. any help would be awesome, thanks B
Country: United StatesMake: Nissan/DatsunModel: Sentra GXEEngine: 4cyl Already Tried: every thing was fine until i replaced the Alternator (I have done this many times) after the weird electrical problems i replaced the battery and looked for any broken or unplugged wires.

On older vehicles with no electronics it was a popular trick to pull the battery cable off with the engine running to see if the alternator is charging. But on a vehicle with electronics it can destroy electronic control modules. Odds are you knocked a module that works with the lighting system. You will have to locate the problem part and replace it to get the lights back the way they were. If you have any more questions I am here to help. Good luck, and Thanks for using Just Answer.I hope this helps, 100% satisfaction is my goal. Just Answer is here to serve you. Hey Dr.
I am an old school mechanic so it seems I shot myself in the foot on this one... Where are these electronic control modules located on this car?
i have been searching on the internet for anything related to a module for the lighting system... so far nothing
It isn't showing up in my info, the bad electronics might be in the switch, I will find out and let you know.
Still looking, it might be tomorrow before I get an answer back I sent an inquiry to the tech manual service I use.

OK I just got a link from a contact I have, where you can download a full factory service manual for your car, it is public domain and there is no charge for the download. I will post a link below, go down to the third of fourth option, and look for 96 Sentra. When you download it, there will be several sections go to the EL (electrical) section, and then go to page 61. It shows no electronics so if you fried electronics it might be in the switch itself. I would recommend you unplug the switch, and if the lights go out the switch is likely fried. I will post a link HERE for the manual download. If you have any more questions I am here to help.
