Real World Tech :

Hi!

Real World Tech :

We are in a live chat session

Real World Tech :

Are you on?

Customer:

yes

Real World Tech :

Welcome

Real World Tech :

Tell me more about your situation

Customer:

we took radio out and put in sirus radio and now airbag light blinks

Real World Tech :

Thank you

Real World Tech :

Allow me to explain how the air bag warning system works on your vehicle

Real World Tech :

The air bag light is unlike the check engine light, so to speak

Real World Tech :

Every time you shut the key off on you car, the air bag light automatically resets itself

Real World Tech :

If performs a diagnostic check of all circuits when you turn the key on

Real World Tech :

when it detects a fault, it will eliuminate the air bag light

Real World Tech :

This is why you haven't been able to clear the light by disconnecting the battery

Real World Tech :

Something has happened during the install of the radio

Real World Tech :

A wire has become pulled from a connector, a connector has been pulled loose, or a short circuit has occured

Real World Tech :

Have you checked all of the fuses?

Real World Tech :

The air bag fuses could be underneath the hood, or in the passenger compartment and are usually wrapped in a yellow plastic to let you know that that is an explosive circuit

Customer:

no where is connector for airbag light

Real World Tech :

The connector for the light would be considered the main connector of the instrument cluster. The Air bag system will have as many as 10 connectors in it

Real World Tech :

Do you own the vehicle? or are you a radio installer?

Customer:

in fuse box we check fuse it was red in color , it was ok

Customer:

radio installer

Real World Tech :

Ok, reverse what you have just done.

Real World Tech :

Did you wire anything into the circuits

Real World Tech :

?

Real World Tech :

or just install a adapter

Real World Tech :

(wiring adapter)

Customer:

wire taped onto 12v accesory at radio

Customer:

tapped*

Real World Tech :

Is there a passenger airbag disabled light on the bezel that covers the radio?

Real World Tech :

anything that has to do with airbags

Customer:

below the radio

Customer:

light goes out when i sit in passenger seat

Real World Tech :

this is where the problem is

Real World Tech :

lemme look at a schematic

Real World Tech :

give me a minute

Real World Tech :

Whats the body code

Customer:

checked to make sure it was pluged in all the way

Customer:

body code?

Real World Tech :

Altima S? ser sl

Customer:

altima se-r

Real World Tech :

ok..

Real World Tech :

v6 4 cyl

Customer:

v6

Customer:

5-speed

Real World Tech :

Did you go in the doors?

Real World Tech :

speakers?

Customer:

no

Customer:

just installed sirius satelite radio

Customer:

w/ factory radio

Real World Tech :

Ok, there is a whole world of things that could have gone wrong.

Real World Tech :

You need to scan the air bag for codes

Real World Tech :

You know any repair shops near by?

Customer:

any way of just reseting the system?

Customer:

there is a few

Real World Tech :

As I said before, the system resets every time you shut the key off.. It runs a test when you turn the key on. It will never shut off because something is wrong

Real World Tech :

I'll be here for a while if you want to try to get me a code out of the air bag module. I think we can get the light off...

Customer:

any way of getting the code without a scanner?

Real World Tech :

Wait wait

Real World Tech :

I found something

Real World Tech :

you still with me?

Customer:

yes

Real World Tech :

I found a reboot procedure for the Air Bag module..

Real World Tech :

Do these steps exactly as it says, and let me know how it goes..

Real World Tech :

1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position.

2. After approximately 7 seconds the air bag light will go off. As soon as the light goes off shut off the key.

3. Wait more than three seconds and repeat steps 1-3 three times.

4. Turn the ignition switch on and check the air bag light. If flashing slowly, turn the ignition switch off and start the vehicle. The light should go out if no problems are present.

Customer:

ok

Customer:

will try now

Customer:

that worked

Real World Tech :

AWESOME!

Real World Tech :

Glad I could help

Real World Tech :

write that down! ahah
