ok i know how it looks it the top part by the housing the cams on top the picture you showed me is on tdc i want to know bout the cams in the housing on a 1999 nissan sentra gxe 1.8L the ones that the timing chains are on

Installation



  1. Install crankshaft sprocket on crankshaft.
    • Make sure mating marks on crankshaft sprocket face front of engine.

  1. Position crankshaft so that No. 1 piston is at TDC and crankshaft key is at 12 o'clock.

  1. install slack side timing chain guide and timing chain tension guide.

  1. Install timing chain on crankshaft sprocket.
    • Set timing chain by aligning its mating mark with that on the crankshaft sprocket.
    • Make sure sprocket's mating mark faces engine front.

  1. Install camshaft sprockets.
    • Set timing chain by aligning mating marks with those of camshaft sprockets.

  1. Install camshaft sprocket bolts to correct torque.
    • Apply new engine oil to bolt threads and seat surface.

  1. Install chain tensioner.
    • Before installing chain tensioner, insert a suitable pin into pin hole of chain tensioner.
    • After installing chain tensioner, remove the pin.
  1. Install timing chain guide.

  1. Install O-rings to cylinder block.

  1. Before installing front cover, remove all traces of RTV Silicone Sealant from mating surface using a scraper.
    • Also remove traces of RTV Silicone Sealant from mating surface of cylinder block.

  1. Apply a continuous bead of Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant Part No. 999MP-A7007 or equivalent to mating surface of front cover.
    • Check alignment of mating marks on chain and crankshaft sprocket.
    • Align oil drive spacer with oil pump.
    • Place timing chain to the side of chain guide. This prevents the chain from making contact with water seal area of front cover.


  1. Install front cover.

  • Make sure two O-rings are present.
  • Be careful not to damage oil seal when installing front cover.

  1. Install cylinder head bolts at engine front side as shown.
    • Tightening procedure Tighten bolts (1 - 4) to 6.3 to 8.3 Nm (0.64 to 0.85 kg-m, 55.8 to 73.5 inch lbs.) .

  1. Install oil pump drive spacer.
  2. Install water pump and water pump pulley.
  3. Install idler pulley and bracket.

  1. Install RH engine mounting bracket.
  2. Install RH engine mounting.
  3. Install oil pan.
  4. Install crankshaft pulley.
  5. Remove ring gear stopper.
  6. Install starter motor.

  1. Install cylinder head front cover.
    • Apply RTV Silicone Sealant to cylinder head front cover.
    • Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant Part No. 999MP-A7007 or equivalent.

  1. Install camshaft position sensor (PHASE).

  1. Before installing rocker cover, apply a bead of Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant Part No. 999MP-A7007 to mating surface of cylinder head as shown.
  2. Install rocker cover gasket into rocker cover.

  1. Install rocker cover and tighten in numerical order as shown in the figure.
  2. Install spark plugs.
  3. Install ignition coils.
  4. Install front exhaust tube.
  5. Install front/right-side splash undercover.
  6. Install front RH wheel.
  7. Drive belts, adjust drive belt deflection.
  8. Reinstall parts in reverse order of removal.

on that image theres another gear there where is that timing mark or is there one

wow im sorry i know why i been so confused its a 1999 sentra gxe 1.6l the timing marks on the three sprockets i couldnt read the tiny writing

This procedure is revised by TSB # XXXXX Date: January 15, 1999

Caution:
  • After removing the timing chain, do not turn the crankshaft and camshaft separately or the valves will strike the piston heads.
  • When installing chain tensioners or other sliding parts, lubricate contacting surfaces with new engine oil.
  • Apply new engine oil to bolt threads and seat surfaces when installing the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft pulley.
  • Do not spill engine coolant on the drive belts.
  • Please use the correct tightening torque .
  1. Install the crankshaft sprocket, making sure the mating marks face the front of the engine.
  2. Install the idler sprocket and lower timing chain using the mating marks and the paint marks made during the removal process. CAUTION: Be careful not to tear or damage the cylinder head gasket.
  3. Install the lower chain guides.
  4. Front cover installation:
    1. Using a scraper or other suitable tool remove all traces of liquid gasket from the cylinder block and front cover mating surfaces.
    2. Install new crankshaft seal in front cover.

    1. Install new oil passage O-rings and apply a continuous bead of RTV sealant to the front cover (see figure 1). NOTE: Use Genuine Nissan RTV silicone sealant P/N 999MP-A7007, Three Bond P/N TB1207D or equivalent.
    2. Install the front cover to the engine. CAUTION: Be careful not to tear or damage the cylinder head gasket or oil seal.
  1. Align oil pump drive spacer with the oil pump, and install.
  2. Install the oil strainer.
  3. Install oil pan.
  4. Install upper timing chain and sprockets, using the painted reference marks made during removal.
  5. Install upper chain tensioner.

  1. Before installing the chain tensioner, insert a suitable pin into the pin hole of the chain tensioner (see figure 2) to hold the tensioner in.
  2. Once the tensioner is installed, remove the pin.

  1. Install the lower chain tensioner (See figure 3). NOTE: Make sure the gasket is facing the proper direction before installing the tensioner. CAUTION: Now rotate the crankshaft by hand. Check that no binding or interference problems occur when the engine is rotated.
  2. Install the thermostat housing.
    1. Use a scraper to remove all traces of liquid gasket from the mating surfaces of the engine front cover and the thermostat housing.

    1. Apply a continuous bead of RTV sealant to the housing as shown in image 4. NOTE: Use Genuine Nissan RTV silicone sealant P/N 999MP-A7007, Three Bond P/N TB1207D or equivalent.
  1. Install camshaft sprocket cover:
    1. Use a scraper to remove all traces of liquid gasket from the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft sprocket cover.

    1. Apply a continuous bead of RTV sealant to the cover as shown in image 5. NOTE: Use Genuine Nissan RTV silicone sealant P/N 999MP-A7007, Three Bond P/N TB1207D or equivalent.
    2. Install camshaft sprocket cover.

13.Apply RTV sealant to rocker cover gasket (see figure 6a) and install rocker cover, tightening the bolts as shown in figure 6b. 14.Install the following parts:
  1. Crankshaft pulley.
  2. A/C compressor and alternator bracket with alternator.
  3. A/C compressor.
  4. Power steering oil pump and tension rod.
    1. Install front and rear engine gussets (if equipped), and rear cover plate (A/T models).
    2. Install front exhaust tube.
    3. Install upper right engine bracket and mount.
    4. Install coolant reservoir tank.
    5. Install alternator, power steering and A/C compressor drive belts.
    6. Install engine compartment splash guards.
    7. Install vacuum hoses, electrical harnesses and connectors.
    8. Install spark plug wires.
    9. Refill with coolant.
    10. Refill with engine oil.
