Is the check engine light on?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
when the car shuts down all the lights come on
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
How does if run at idle ? So no check engine light on when idling?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
no light while running, the car is running fine and it suddenly shuts down no power

sometimes it will start again and sometimes not
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
Ok this sounds like it can be a few different issues the first is the fuel pump is shuting down the next is a faulty igntion switch, what happens is the electrical part of the ignition switch shorts out and causes the car to loose all power. This along with the fuel pump and crank sensor need to be checked next.

checked the sensor, put the fuel pressure gauage on and nothing, check sensor, according to the mechanic everything is working fine.
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
Ok he needs to check the ignition switch and mass air flow next since there are no codes start with the switch and mass air flow sensor he should also be checking the ECM to make sure it's not shorting out.

is thiz the same as the ignition module? or something like that. What is mass air flow
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
No the ignition control module is for spark control and can be the issue also if you are missing spark when it does not start up.The electrical part of the ignition switch is located behing the ignition switch in the car where the key goes in and they short out and loose contact and the car then stalls. The mass air flow is connected to the intake and they always go bad and alot of times cause this issue also. These are what need to be checked.

what about the black smoke that was coming out of the tail pipe?
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
The black smoke is to much fuel that can be caused by the mass air flow also. These cause black smoke a faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor.Along with the mass air flow this is what needs to be checked.

are these the ignition control module and themass air flow not going to show up with a code?
is that why the present mechanics can't find them
and does the car need to be shutting down for these to be verified that they are malfunctioning?
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
They need to have a good scanner and test these parts to be able to troubleshoot. This is what they need to check and test next ,print this out and bring it to then for them to check these issues.Possibly might want to try another shop.
