Appears either my drive needs replacing or my u joint needs

Customer Question

Appears either my drive needs replacing or my u joint needs replacing. My car began to make a flapping noise when the speed increased, thought it was the wheel bearings at first but after taking the tires off and taking a closer look, I can see the drive shaft seperated from the mount.
JA: How many miles are on the car? Is this the first time you're dealing with this issue?
Customer: Drive shaft*
JA: What is the model/year of your Infiniti?
Customer: 147802 and tjis is the first time this issue has appeared.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: 2007 m35x
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: I would rather take it to a mechanic because I'm not sure if anything else was damaged and is tjis an expensive fix?
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Infiniti Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Ok sorry for the delay

Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

Did the driveshaft come apart?

Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

If not there should be no additional damage

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
It looks like the u joint came apart and the casing it sits in, one side is bent backwards
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
The drive shaft itself seems to be fine
Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

Well the driveshaft need to be replaced but it is possible that there could be damage to the engine or transmission case. It was bouncing around in that area. Is there any fluid leaking?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Definitely damage to the transmission case but no fluid leaking anywhere thank goodness
Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

That's good I had this happen once and I needed to replace the upper oil pan too.

Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

If the damages are just cosmetic it sould be fine.

Expert:  Ryan replied 5 months ago.

There are two ways to get this shaft out. Remove the ehaust catalytic converter or un bolt the transfer case and pull back some. Either way is not easy.

Good luck and let me know if you require additional help
