Customer Question

2007 Infiniti M35 won't start. Tried to jump start the car with no luck. Tried to turn on the headlights and they are working fine. Don't think it is the battery. Brake pedal is really hard to depress. When I depress it and push the ignition button I get no response.

Jay :

Hello and Thank you for using JustAnswer.com

Jay :

Does anything electrical work like the dome light and so on when you tried jump starting the car?

Customer : Not inside the car. The lock light around the ignition switch come on. But it won't advance to acc or on.
Customer : The key light on the dash also lights up when I try and start the car. I know the fob is working as it unlocks the door.
Customer : Dome lights are wOrking!
Jay :

when you step on the brake pedal, do you see the brake lights coming on?

Customer : Yes. Brake lights are on.
Customer : And have tried putting the entire key fob in the "over ride slot?" to the left of the steering column and that doesn't work either.
Jay :

Well the only thing I have seen that can cause this is if you jumped the car backwards. That blows the IPDM and BCM, which can cause what your describing.

Jay :

Are you 100% sure you jumped the car correctly?

Customer : Yes.
Customer : Have been checking a lot of different forums during this time and there is a lot of discussions on this bit no solutions.
Jay :

Well if the key is not able to turn on, then advanced diagnostics need to be done. These push button start systems can be very tricky to figure out if they are not responding.

Customer : Actually got the car to start once since we started this chat. Drove it home and turned it off and now it won't start again. Same issue.
Jay :

Like I said, normally when I have seen this happen, it's jumped backwards and the IPDM and BCM need to be replaced to resolve. Sometimes just the IPDM.

Jay :

Try this for the heck of it.

Customer : But this started before it was jumped.
Jay :

Loosen the negative battery cable and wiggle it side to side and tighten it back up in a different position, then do the same for the positive.

Jay :

Maybe it a poor battery connection.

Customer : Did I mention the key like on the odometer comes on when I try to start it and the airbag red light in the center come on but it's dim.
Customer : If I have a poor battery connection would the headlights be working because they are and very bright.
Jay :

The head lights are not as much of a load as the starting system.

Customer : Do you think the system isn't registering the key?
Jay :

Do you have another key you can try?

Jay :

Maybe there is a problem with that key also?

Customer : And the security light on the dash is blinking.
Customer : Tried the spare key and no luck with it either.
Jay :

These type of problems are really tough, and even tougher online.

Jay :

Let me check to see if there is any thing is in the data base tomorrow at work. Then I will get back to you.

This is what I found for you this morning when I was at work. Click HERE to download the bulletin.

This may apply to your car, but if not, then your going to need to have advanced diagnostics performed to determine your issue I am afraid.

If you have any more questions on this, please feel free to ask. Thanks Jay!
