This question is for an Infiniti mechanic. My son is looking at a 1999 Q35 with 160,000 miles. Is this too many miles? He is looking to spend 8-9K. This car's asking price is 5K.Are there certain years/ models of infiniti to steer clear of and what should he look for in a n older used infiniti
Hello and Thank you for using JustAnswer.com
5k is to much for that car. Is this a used car lot?
The car in excellent condition is worth the most around 4100.
Good condition 3700
To be honest with you, this car with that many miles is going to require some work most likely and the parts are very expensive.
Power Steering racks are known to go on these cars, and there could be many more things to worry about. I am not a big fan of the Q's, I never really liked them to be honest. The cost of repairs is crazy.
For 8 to 9k, you can get something like a Maxima, or I35 that is a much better car than the Q
If you have any more questions on this, please feel free to ask. Thanks Jay!
Parts seem to be more expensive for the Q because of all it's control unit and electronics.
The I30's the parts are much more reasonable and more parts are available after market
The only thing you want to check on the I30's is the lower radiator supports rust away and can drop the cross member. That is one of the first things I would check
If that is good, then I would look over the rest of the car.
Check Engine Mounts, Trans fluid condition, filters, remove the oil cap and see if there is any sludge build up in the engine
Check tire wear see if there is any uneven wear indicating something in the suspension
and road test the car for any types of noises and performance issues.
I can't say, they can go for a long time.
I have seen over 300k on these cars..
But if your buddy has 8 to 9 to spends, I would look for something around the 100k mark..
120k or less..
Years 2000 to 2004
Stay away from the 99 and below models, they had EGI harness problems
I am a Nissan and Infiniti tech, I can't speak to much on Lexus, so I am not going to tell you anything I don't know.
G35's are not to bad. Altima's in the 3.5 are good. If you look at a Altima with a 2.5 they had Catt Converter issues that would damage the engine. But I have a trick on that as long as it doesn't have a oil consumption issue, you remove the catt and put a exhaust header on the car with a rear 02 sensor spacer and then that car will run for ever.
But that is if you looking at Nissans
