My 2004 Infiniti FX35 won't start with the fob or key. It sounds like it's going to start but it never actually fires up. I had about 50 miles to empty before I turned it off..and it's not on a slope, so I don't think it's low fuel?

Hello and Thank you for using JustAnswer.com
When you turn the key to the ON position, is the security light on solid?
I'm honestly not sure..and I had to leave my car and get a ride to work so I can't check..but I do know all the dash lights lit up,
The key thing you want to look for is that security light
If that light is solid, that means there is a problem with reading the chip in the key
When you go back to the car, bring spare keys with you just in case so you can try another key if there is a problem with that one key.
How far away is the car?
You can also try this to see if you can get out of lock mode if the security light is solid
It's about 15 minutes away. Where is the security light?
Hmm, I think it's either on the top of the dash by the vents, or it's in the meter area. It's a little red car with a key in it, or it's the blinking light on top of the dash. It's in one of those two places
I can keep this question open if you like so you can check and try what I suggested and see if that works
If you have a smart phone I can assist you while at the car as well.
Let me know, I will need to get off line for about 1/2 hour or so to eat dinner.. so take your time. I will be back online till 10 or 11 pm tonight EST
I have to work for another hour, 5pm PST..then I'm getting a ride to the car to see if it'll start. Can I text you then, from the car? I have another key at home..I'll stop and pick that up first.
Sure, just return back to this question and if you have any more questions on this let me know.
The security key it's referring to...is that the key that 's hidden in the fob.
Oh you have a I-key system?
You just turn the knob to start the car?
Try using the mechanical key to start the car instead of just turning the knob and see if that does something also. You can try that.
Yes...sorry..I forgot to mention that. Yes..I just turn the knob..but today I tried that and I tried removing the key from the fob and inserting it too.l
Once your at the car in a hour, I can better assist you once you can see what is going on with my help and I will do my best to help you.
Lets just pick this up then.
I won't have a computer with me though..is it possible to text you from my phone while I'm at the car?
Do you have a smart phone that has internet?
cause personal contact is against our terms and services
You would need to return to this question using a smart phone for me to assist you at your car
:o( No. Spent all my money on the Infiniti :o) It's just an old style text phone.
lol
Do you have someone who can help you that has a smart phone?
Maybe they can log into this question and be the middle man and type to me for you.
You just need your user name and password XXXXX should have been emailed to you so they can log into your account and come back to this question
I'll try the suggestions that you've given me....and then reply after from my home computer. None of my co-workers with 'good' phones are heading in my direction.
ok, I will talk to you then.
