1999 I30: car loses power, then back to normal

1999 I30 has "idiot light" problems...all come on suddenly, car loses power, then back to normal. very intermittant

Do you have a check engine light on when the engine is running?

just had that taken care of. I presume there will be more than this as an "answer"

I am trying to get a understanding on what is going on so I can give you some direction on what needs to be done

You had a Check engine light on?

Customer:

they replaced crank sensor and pigtail...code was for knock sensor

Jay :

The Knock Sensor will not cause a Check Engine Light.

Jay :

The crank sensors almost never fail on these engines. Did you have a code for it? That can cause what your describing how ever.

Jay :

I hope they didn't charge you a ton for the knock sensor. You don't need to remove the intake to replace them on your year I30. It can be replaced in about 30 mins.

i am just taking the word of the mechanic. I still don't know what is causing the idiot lights to come on and the car skip power momentarily. I suggested the battery connections but they were ok with a multimeter test

You say idiot lights, what lights are exactly coming on?

my son says the abs, battery and one other comes on

Jay : Those lights are on most like due to a alternator issue
Jay : I know you said you had one replaced last year.
Jay : But it could be defective
Jay : I would have the charging system checked to verify.
