Customer Question

Hi we bought the a small penel beating garage. the previous owner had two cars inside the garage. When we asked when he going to remove the cars, he said in a month. So my dad agreed. Now it's been more than 2 months and he has not removed his cars. It's taking up storage place. Can we charge him for storage as it's in our garage.

You cannot charge for storage unless you have a contract, which could be verbal. So the next step is to tell him that unless he agrees to pay storage, you will take the cars onto the street and will not store them any longer. You can also tell him that if he agrees to pay storage, but then fails to do so, you will sell the cars to pay for the storage. It would be best to send an email which states this, or a letter, so that your intentions are clear. You should also state that if he doesnt agree, he must remove the cars forthwith or they go on the street.. Then if he agrees but continues to fail to remove or pay, you can sell the cars for the storage.
