Customer Question

if I buy a lamp and it does not fit the space can I get a refund

This depends on what you said to the shop when you are buying the lamp, and the specifications you may have given, and also on the promise of the shop. If they gave you an open promise that you could bring the lamp back if it was not suitable, then they are bound by that promise. In addition, if you told them that you needed to check for size, that would help because you have explained the specific need, and the refund arises because it is not fit for the purpose which you described. The Consumer Guarantees Act gives you these rights.
