I rear ended a car I was following behind on a roundabout which suddenly stopped due to a bus which didn't appear to give way entering the roundabout from our left who is responsible for paying for damage.

Unfortunately the car which hits the one in front is responsible. The presumption is that you should follow at a distance so you can stop safely without hitting, even in an emergency. Sometimes where the collision is caused by some very bad driving, then that driver may have to contribute.
