Hi,My friend helped me fill out a one party application for my divorce and submitted it to her lawyer friend with all the information I needed to provide, the only thing left was for me to pay it which I haven't done so as yet. I cannot get hold of my friend and I dont know what her lawyer friend's name is. My question is, how do I find out how far my file has gone with the courts and how do I complete it with payment. Thanks Tupi

If you have not paid any money so far, I expect that the lawyer has not done anything about filing the application with the court. The court filing fee for the application is $211.50 and I do not think the lawyer would file the application with the court until this money had been paid. If you have copies of the documents, you can take this down to the family court yourself because you do not need a lawyer for this. Some of the forms can be a little challenging if you are not familiar with court documents, but many people apply to their own divorces without a lawyer. You will therefore find that nothing has happened, because the court will not accept the documents for filing until the fee is paid, and it is very unlikely the lawyer would file this without the fee.
