What is the acceptable time to await for a first meeting between a lawyer and client?

I would expect that you would want to meet with the lawyer as soon as possible. I expect it should only be a few days at the most from the time you first instruct the lawyer or get assigned a lawyer on legal aid, to physically visit the lawyer or at least have a telephone discussion. There is no rule which says how long this should be, but speaking for myself, I would want to see the client as soon as possible to arrange for such matters as the letter of engagement and obtaining authority to get the material needed from the police.
