Hi... I purchased a car in October of 2011 from a dealer. Immediately following that, I have reported some faults both minor and major. The minor ones were fixed, and the major ones are still unresolved. I have always been told to swing by when the issues arise, but everytime I did, they were never caught. I this month, I asked what options I had and they said I could do a trade in. I thought this was a good idea, but was surprised when they told me they were offering only 40% of it's original value because of the underlying faults. Would this be covered by the Consumer Guarantee Act? What are my rights in this instance?

I think they are having you on. You need to put it to them that they must stand behind the car under the Consumer Guarantees Act and either repair or replace. the replacement would have to be better than 40 % however. You have had the car for 9 months approximately, but the faults are their problem not yours. So the figure should be the car, as it should have been. less 9 months wear and tear
The Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal is otherwise the place to make them either repair or replace
