Hello Tina,Can a married person become betrothed to another during the course of an informal separation when even property issues have yet to be resolved? No children are involved.
The couple at issued have been married for near 32 years. Children are all adults and not dependant. Separation has been in reality for about 12 months. No reconciliation is possible. Property division is a serious issue and looks likely to require court intervention. The couple are NZ citizens.
Betrothal is nothing more than an agreement to marry at a later stage and has no meaning at law. So you can get betrothed without any legal concern.
