My 24 year old son found a lump on left side front of neck.

Customer Question

My 24 year old son found a lump on left side front of neck. Saw his doctor, the doctor ordered sonogram, that came back fine, but doctor sent him to neck specialist, the neck specialist thought the lump was nothing to worry about, but is having my son have an MRI.
I feel worried, should I be?

This is Dr. David

you shouldn't be worried.

the ultrasound came back fine.

I'm not sure why your son needs to see a neck specialist or to get an MRI scan of the neck if the area is fine.

this sounds most likely to be a reactive lymph node in the neck which can swell up reacting to an infection or inflammation of the neck area or throat

I am a cancer doctor

I am not worried about cancer.
