Customer Question

I fell on my thumb today and it has been hurting for hours from tip to middle of hand above the thumb. Should I see a doctor or maybe it is just a sprain. I cannot use the thumb and cannot grip anything with it.

Hello,

Welcome to Justanswer website.

Myself Dr Josh and I’m happy to help with your question today. Please provide me the following information so that I can address your concern

On a grade of 1 to 10 how would you rate the pain?

Do you have associated swelling in thumb?

Are you able to rotate thumb sideways?

How long back this happened?

Thanks

Thanks for all these additional details.

I am sorry to hear about your problems.

Well, from the description and considering severity of pain, I would suggest that you should not delay and rush to ER ASAP.

Having swelling and very severe pain should be clinically evaluated by doctor.

Your doctor may suggest x-rays to ensure that the bone is not broken.

If the ligament is only partially torn, your doctor will probably immobilize your thumb joint with a bandage, cast, or splint until it heals.

Please see doctor in ER ASAP and get this issue managed.

Hope this helped
