Customer Question

I have loss of movement in one direction, with no pain, of my left shoulder. It happened 11 days ago. I have been referred for an MRI to determine the damage. I have been told the MRI department will call me in 4-10 days with the appointment time after checking with my insurance company etc. I'm concerned about muscle atrophy of any muscles that are separated from bone during the wait. what are the concerns here. thanks

This is Dr. David

4-10 days is not too long to wait

there shouldn't be that much atrophy in that time.

you can still move your shoulder in the other directions.

you should continue to rest and heat the shoulder, and you can try ice as well.

if you need shoulder repair surgery, your doctors will recommend physical therapy afterwards which can help your muscles come back after surgery.

let me know if you have questions.
